In the past, the strategies used to rank search engines were basic and took a long time to change. In this day and age, search engines change their ranking plans constantly so that you always need to be alert and to make sure that you change the way you use SEO on a very regular basis so that your site does not fall to the bottom of the search engine rankings. It is not uncommon for site owners to watch their rankings fall without appreciating why that is. As their pages start to slide down the listings, their traffic volume starts to fall too. As their traffic dries up so do their sales. An SEO consulting expert is what is needed if this happens. They will pay close attention to the algorithms and adapt quickly to the changes that they see. While your competitors wonder what is happening and struggle to maintain their positions, you can be sitting pretty for the keywords that you are targeting. If your website falls into the ranks of the lowest sites on the search engines, it will not be getting the kind of traffic needed to keep your company afloat. Hiring a Search Engine Optimization freelance consultant will pay you back exponentially as the consultant keeps watch on, and manages, your website to make sure that it stays at the top of search engine results. Freelance SEO consultants can provide analysis of your site, keyword research, link formation, writing services, management of online reputation and social media optimization. Some SEO consultants can set up and manage pay-per-click campaigns. When you sit down with your freelance SEO consultant you will decide together which of these services will optimize the placement of your website. Any professional SEO consultant that you hire should have several years of experience in the search industry. As well as experience, tactical and strategic foresight are attributes that you should look for. They should not only be able to monitor the current state of the search engines’ algorithms, but also be able to predict what the near future holds. The ability to accurately track results and report are also important, as is the range of tools that they have at their disposal. Does your company need to hire a professional or not? What is your internet niche? Is it a niche that experiences very little competition? If so, you are in a good place and perhaps do not need the services of an SEO consultant. On the other hand, if you are constantly fighting for good keywords and to keep in the top search engine rankings, a freelance SEO consultant may be just what you need.

Here is a case study of the revenue that a client achieved by optimizing a single keyword that moved from the bottom of the second page of Google to a number 4 position, above the fold on the first page.

A client’s website had a ranking of 18 for their primary target keywords on the second page of Google’s natural search engine results. Considering how many marketers are competing for the top positions for this keyword, appearing on the second page of search results seemed a like an accomplishment, but we thought that it could be better.

SEO Works

A marketing strategy focused optimization efforts on improving the natural keyword ranking for this one target keyword. After some time and effort, the ranking for the keyword first moved to the number 9 position, and then to the number 4 position of the first page search engine results. The improved search engine ranking for this single keyword generated an increase in sales leads far more than expected, which subsequently converted to an increase in sales revenue amounting to over $1,000,000.

Tracking the Moves

The list below shows the search engine ranking relative to the number of sales leads that were generated from the company’s primary target keyword:

  • Nov 08 – position 18 = 6 leads
  • Dec 08 – position 9 = 31 leads
  • Jan 09 – position 9 = 126 leads
  • Feb 09 – position 4 = 102 leads
  • Mar 09 – position 4 = 207 leads
  • Apr 09 – position 4= 221 leads

Summary of Results

The increase in the number of monthly sales leads can be seen as the target keyword ranking moved up over the six month time period. The full benefit of the keyword moving from the 18th to the 9th position is reflected in the January total because the change occurred later in the month of December. The same applies to the move from position 9 to position 4 because the change occurred later in February.

For managers and business owners who are wondering about the difference between having a major keyword listing on the first page of search results compared to the second page of results, this case study should provide some insight based on our experience.

It also shows an example of the potential benefit from having keyword search results listed above the fold of a web page as opposed to below the fold where viewers must scroll down to see more search listings.

There was clear evidence that a higher organic search engine ranking can dramatically affect sales lead generation and company revenue, in this case over $1,000,000.

Search Engine Optimization is extremely important for your business website to get traffic to rank higher in search results. However, topnotch SEO services could be expensive and cheap SEO services can lose you customers and business. Most such services use unethical SEO strategies that though work well in the short run can get your website banned results in the short-term but risk your website’s removal from Google, Bing, and other search engines. Small businesses working with strained budgets find it difficult to hire skilled SEO services or buy often used keywords against competition that is prepared to pay top dollar.

A website cannot claim to meet visitors’ expectation until and unless stumbled upon. Mostly, web surfers find what they are looking for through search engines and directories and so it is important for every business organization to get the best ranking possible as the competition in Search Engine Optimization is becoming hard-hitting bit by bit. Internet is a user-friendly platform that is available for nearly any doable job. Today, every business organization yearns for high search engine ranking.Click on the links in this article to find something about web design .

When a website is published in the internet, the only thing that matters is the rank of the website in the pages of the search engines like Google, Yahoo! or MSN. A website cannot achieve a superior rank in the pages of the search engines on its own; to reach this goal the website must get properly optimized by any Search Engine Optimization company. The fate of the online business depends on this ranking in the pages of the search engines. If a website succeeds to get a superior rank in the pages of the search engines, then it will get visible to the worldwide target customers; otherwise its chance of succeeding is almost impossible.

SEO (Search Engine Optimization) is the widely used term in the field of “Web Marketing”. I can surely say “SEO is the backbone of Online Marketing.”

I want to define the term SEO in a more familiar way by taking a very simple example. Suppose, having developed a new website for your company or business, you must be in the illusion that a website by itself will give you enhanced market visibility and lead to business growth, when actually you are operating in the same marketing environment as you previously were.

The reason behind this phenomenon is: when a surfer Googles for a specific service, he/she will enter the most relevant keyword related to that product/service and scan through for their desired content, generally just in the top 10-15 results. If your website hasn’t made it to this list, and that too, for the most relevant tags, its likely that your website will be ignored. It doesn’t matter how unique you have made it.

According to Google’s survey, If you are not in the first page results, you loose your 63% of potential business.

So, we can say “SEO is the technique by which we can optimize a website in accordance with search engine requirements.” SEO helps to drive in more relevant traffic to our website, thereby generating interest in your products & services which ultimately drive sales to increase the ROI (Return On Investment). So, First step towards SEO is your content should be more relevant and fresh. Because Google likes fresh content as we like fresh meal. :)

A well structured and carefully designed website is an asset for any business. Web designing is crucial in building a website that will attract a large number of visitors. If the web design does not meet the specifications of the owner, it could turn out to be more of a liability than an asset. A good web designer must be able to provide informative content, attractive web colors, and easy navigation. A good web design should be able to attract many visitors to the site and must rank high in search engine results.

You must consider certain aspects when designing a good website. Focus on the targeted audience and measure web quality from their point of view. The web content must be easy to understand. The way your website looks is very important, but it must also be functional and easy to navigate. Clear navigation is necessary for ease in searching for information required by visitors. A website should always be designed for SEO or search engine optimization from the very beginning. Using keywords and description meta tags will help improve your website’s ranking.

Always provide a feedback option for your visitors to leave their comments and how they rate your site. When designing the web site, put yourself in the shoes of the customers and targeted audience, rather than from the web site owner’s perspective. Use language for your content that will be understood by your customers and targeted audience. It should be rich in relevant information that is clear and easy to understand.

A good web site design focuses on a specific audience and not on many audiences. To focus on more than one target audience means focusing on nothing. Contents of the web are the most important elements. The website’s contents fulfill the primary objectives of any business. Good communication through the web promotes your business. If your web site has a good ranking in search engines, your business will have a better chance of reaching most of the customers. Web contents show your message to your customers and are useful for marketing purposes.

You must put great emphasis on web content management. Use graphics creatively and target your specific customers. Remember that your website is your business’ show window to the world. For most companies, their website is their business. You can process transactions and take orders through the web. You can also develop new relations with your customers with a single click of the mouse.

Over the years the definition of SEO has surely changed. Years ago everyone approached it like it was a giant science project and today it is approached for the most part like a marketing effort. Unfortunately we still see individuals and companies really butchering the craft of SEO and giving it a bad name by using shotty business practices and spammy efforts to try and “market” their websites.

Here are my ideas of the drastic differences among taking a less than stellar approach to growing any business and taking a high-quality marketing approach to your overall search engine optimization movement.

Everyone seems to have a special approach on how to get from point A to point B; some are worth mentioning and some are just downright disrespectful to the industry. The SEO industry is very important to keep clean and some out there really give SEO people a bad image.

Here are some differences between good SEO and bad SEO.

Keyword Research

Good SEO

Putting together a combination of soaring search volume keywords along with long tail keyword phrases and also some low search volume keywords elegantly and strategically through your website.

Bad SEO

Simply going after one word keyword for each page of your website eager you will be at the top of the search results for only high search volume keywords.

Writing a Meta Tag

Good SEO

Crafting a friendly user focused meta title tag in good taste using a targeted keyword phrase that is 60 web characters or less.

Bad SEO

Taking your meta title tag and over stuffing it with your industry keywords thinking it will work to your advantage when it comes time to rank in the search results.

Writing a Meta Tag Description

Good SEO

Keeping your website traffic in mind so your message can be heard when a website visitor reads your meta tag description in the search results. All this while utilizing your targeted keywords for that specific page.

Bad SEO

Taking a spammy approach and over stuffing your meta tag descriptions with the intentions of just trying to achieve rankings and forgetting about the overall user experience.

Content Optimization

Good SEO

Attractively utilizing keywords and long tail phrases into your existing content so a person can actually understand it and can still make a connection with what your business is trying to say or communicate.

Bad SEO

Having so many keywords jammed into your content that it is difficult to even read.

Press Release Writing & Distribution

Good SEO

Writing something worthy of an announcement to get your surrounding community chattering about it on their websites and in their blogs and distributing the PR through a small handful of industry standard press release distribution services.

Bad SEO

Obviously constructing a PR piece that is solely meant for search engines and not a human being.

Article Writing & Distribution

Good SEO

Placing yourself as an authority in your niche or area of study and writing an article that your industry can actually benefit from is the way to go.

Bad SEO

Writing a massive amount of articles that most likely make no sense but are SEO’d to death is not a targeted approach.

Directory Submission

Good SEO

Choosing highly trafficked and respected website directories to list your business in.

Bad SEO

Taking a software program that promises to distribute your information into thousands of directories that are virtually useless for you to be listed in.

Video Marketing

Good SEO

Making an instructive or promotional viral video that offers something unique to your industry while allowing for some SEO efforts when constructing titles and descriptions so they are search engine friendly.

Bad SEO

Recording a horribly produced video just for the sake of making a video and not really having any substance to it with the only intention being to take up a parking space in the search results.

Facebook Marketing

Good SEO

Building a Facebook fan page that is inviting to your audience and your community where you can spread the message to your followers about your business in any way you feel necessary.

Bad SEO

Attempting to send thousands of friend requests from a personal profile that has been structured to come from a business because it is easier to send out a request that way. This will get your Facebook account shut off.

Twitter Marketing

Good SEO

By posting useful information for your audience and your industry into your Twitter stream that doesn’t consist of just self promotional items.

Bad SEO

Sending out self promotional messages or affiliate links all day long without adding any substance to the conversation is not going to help anyone.

Blog Commenting

Good SEO

Good blog commenting always ads to the overall conversation that is occurring within that blog post. Leaving behind a few good sentences that actually add value is the way to go.

Bad SEO

Short little messages letting someone know they have a great post is not going to add any value and it is an approach that adds absolutely no value to anything.

These are some of the areas that I think need to be looked at when you are starting to market your business online. Take the right approach when you first get going because you will be happy you did. Taking a tasteful approach allows you to build your brand and also impacts the way others in your industry will view you as a business.

SEO, or Search Engine Optimization is easier than most would like you to believe. There is a lot of jargon, so the simple truth of good, solid SEO is a mystery to many. However, I can show you a way to generate lots of extra traffic to your site while you remain in compliance with the Google Terms of Service agreement.

At the core, SEO is all about gaining a higher page rank on the big search engines. Your page rank is the end result of what you do, how you optimize your page, making it seem as relevant as possible to various search engine queries. At a very basic level, for the complete newbie, there are 4 rules you must follow in order to achieve your optimal page rankings. I call these the 4 Golden Rules of SEO.

SEO Rule Number 1 – Backlinks Are Your Best Friend

The number one rule of optimization in my opinion, is to gain as many links from outside of your website, pointing back to your targeted page, as you possibly can. It can be easy to gain a lot of backlinks but you must ensure that you are not spamming other sites in the midst of your efforts. Two of the most popular methods of backlinking are article and directory submissions.

The single most popular and, perhaps, most effective method of backlink building is done through Article Submission. You simply write articles on the subject of your website and submit them to ezines. These ezine sites allow you to create a resource box where you can write a little about yourself, your knowledge, and make a pitch to the readers to visit your site. You can use the very powerful Text Anchor Links, meaning using selected keywords that you want to rank for on a particular page, and these text anchor links will factor heavily in your search engine rankings.

For Directory Submissions, you can submit a link to your page to thousands of different directories, usually consisting of a brief description of your site, a list of keywords, and you also must select a category in which your site will be placed. Manually, this can be tedious but it can also be rewarding. A lot of Webmasters elect to go the automated directory submission route. It makes the process easier but, in the end, most directories do not like automated submissions.

SEO Rule Number 2 – Update Your Site Regularly

While you are busy building links back to your site, you will need to update your site as often as possible. Search Engine Optimization at its’ best would suggest that you update your site each day. However, that can be a little demanding when you consider all the other tasks you will have to complete to get a high ranking, so it would be okay as long as your site is updated at least once a week. A real simple way to update your site regularly, without having to write new articles each day, is to go into an article that has already been published, maybe change a few words, and publish it again. That will save you some time as well as convince the search engine to visit your site more often.

Another way to think of it is this:

A search engine will visit your site, crawl around, and leave to report what is on your site. If the robot keeps visiting your site and leaves, with nothing new to report, it will begin to visit your site less frequently. On the other hand, if the search engine crawls your site, always has something new to report, then it will visit your site much more often. This is what you want. You want to convince the search engines to come to crawl your site several times a day. This can only be accomplished by updating your site regularly.

SEO Golden Rule Number 3 – Your Website Is Like Your Home

The third Golden Rule Of Search Engine Optimization is the structure of your website. You can think of your website like you do your house. How big is it? How easy is it to navigate? How strong is the foundation? When a search engine robot visits your site, it’s not going to hang out for a while, drink some coffee, chat, and then leave. It’s going to come and be gone in a matter of seconds. Ensure that you have links to your inner pages on the main home page of your site. These links are like doors to the other rooms in your site and the search engines should have easy access to these doors at all times.

You can think of the H1 and H2 meta title tags as like your front door. Make sure that you use these tools effectively. The H1 and H2 tags are what give the search engines a first impression of what your site is going to be about.

Your main objective, in search engine optimization, is to rank for certain keywords that web surfers would type in while trying to find the product or service you offer. That’s why it’s crucial for you to make sure you place these keywords within your site frequently. Not so often that it doesn’t make sense or looks spammy, but you want to make sure that your chosen keywords are on the pages of your site. You probably want your keywords to be 3 to 6 percent of a given article.

And lastly, on your site, you may want to link to internal pages with chosen keywords. If, in one of your articles, you type a keyword that relates to an article you had previously written, you should use that keyword to link to that other article. Text anchor links are, while not as powerful as they once were, are still one of the most powerful things you can have in your site.

SEO Golden Rule Number 4 – Content Really Is King

If you have been doing ANY research on search engine optimization, you have probably become real familiar with this term. Content really is king because it’s the foundation of the house you build online. If you do not have useful information, services, or products, your visitors may visit but will never return. You will naturally gain a lot of links from your visitors, saving you a lot of painstaking work, but only if they find what you offer to be helpful. It’s tempting to take the easy way, and offer a bunch of copy and pasted garbage, but you will find that good and solid UNIQUE content is what makes a successful website.

Now, don’t fear if you’re not any good at writing articles as there are many sites that you can utilize to hire a writers to create articles for you. You will usually need to pay a few bucks for these articles but, considering it will be unique quality content, the value of using these freelance writers can be priceless.

Understand that, while search engine optimization will not take forever and requires a little patience on your part, it can take a while before you see your efforts paying off. However, when that time comes, you will be on top of the world because your site will last. Following the 4 Golden Rules Of Search Engine Optimization, you have built a quality website and, perhaps most importantly, you have done it the right way.
